Lorenzo Lubrano of Blue Eco Line, together with Camilla Cantinani and Michael Mugnai, have a clear vision: technology at the service of the environment. They have designed River Cleaner, an automated system for collecting plastic from rivers using River Eye artificial intelligence, sensors, night vision, and modularity.
River Cleaner
Along the San Rocco canal in Marina di Grosseto, Tuscany, a quiet revolution is taking shape. Here, where the water flows toward the Tyrrhenian Sea, a machine tirelessly intercepts plastic waste before it can escape into the open sea. This is the River Cleaner, an invention that turns innovation into protection for the environment.
I have followed its story through my lens from the very first day β from the press conference at the end of 2024 to the long weeks of assembly, testing, and installation. Through my documentary Plastic Reborn, produced with Carlo Mameli Video Agency, I have witnessed how an idea slowly became reality.
At the heart of this journey is the Blue Eco Line team: Lorenzo Lubrano, the engineer who designed the system; Camilla Cantiani, giving direction and vision; and Michael Mugnai, whose technical skills bring life to the project. They are young innovators, united by a simple yet powerful mission β to keep plastic out of the sea and give it a second life through recycling.
Watching the River Cleaner at work is like watching hope in motion. Piece by piece, the plastic that once threatened the sea is lifted from the water and brought back to land. It may be a small canal, but it carries with it a message that reaches far beyond Tuscany: change begins where determination meets innovation.
